David Review’s Vegan Food Van!

Over the last decade, the concept of “street food” has been gaining momentum. Street food in London is particularly having a moment and every week I seem to come across an article on a new restaurant that started out in a trailer van. The problem (for health freaks like me) is that the street food “industry” is focused on burgers, chips and curries. A classic example of this can be found every Saturday at Urban Food Fest just around the corner from Frame Shoreditch.

This past Saturday I found myself navigating through Urban Food Fest trying to find a healthier alternative and stumbled upon Rupert’s Kitchen, a vegan truck owned and operated by a lovely woman named Emily. Naturally I was suspicious; after all, vegan doesn’t always mean healthy and I didn’t know what ingredients were being used.

Emily was super friendly and gave me the scoop behind Rupert’s Street. The menu changes almost daily (there were sweet potato burgers on offer that day), ingredients are locally sourced, and no sugar is used in any sauces. Emily always prepares the food she is serving on the same day and no preservatives are used throughout the process.

The truck is based at Urban Food Fest on most Saturdays, but there is no set schedule and Emily told me she enjoys hanging around the City on weekdays.

Check out Rupert’s Street Facebook page to see where the truck will be located
