Beet it
I have a bit of a dilemma with beets.
You see, I hate beets. To me it’s like eating dirt and I just can’t get past the earthiness of its taste.
So why do I even bother with them?
BECAUSE BEETS ARE AWESOME!
Besides containing potassium, magnesium, iron, vit a + b6 + c and folic acid it’s also a powerhouse of antioxidants plus it boosts your stamina (which is great for us Framettes).
On top of that it helps reduce blood pressure because of its high content of nitrates.
There’s a simple way of making my taste buds, as well as my body happy: Juice.
Juicing has gotten some mixed rep over the years but as long as you eat plenty of whole foods and get enough fibre then juice is a great addition to your life.
Here’s a juice that you can try. It’s rather sweet and normally I would add more veg but when I made it I just craved a nice sweet juice to kick-start my day (next to the daily Hot Lemon Water of course).
Ingredients:
Serves 1
½ beetroot
2 carrots
¼ pineapple
1 apple
1 slice of lemon
Juice and drink.
(If you don’t have a juicer try blending & straining it)
But here’s some warning:
1) Do not juice more than ½ beet per person unless you like that earthy taste
2) Beets turn your pee red. So don’t panic – there’s nothing wrong with you.
